Teen Slashed in Upper West Side Attack

A 16-year-old was attacked on a staircase in a high-rise building on the Upper West Side Wednesday night. Authorities report that the incident involved a group of four assailants.

The knife attack occurred at Waterline Square around 10:45 PM. This upscale residential area features one-bedroom units with rents starting at approximately $7,000 per month.

According to law enforcement, this is not the first time the youth has been involved in similar incidents.

The teen was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital and is currently in stable condition after suffering cuts to his left wrist and shoulder.

The attackers fled the scene on foot, and law enforcement is still searching for them. Their ages remain unclear.

Waterline Square boasts various fitness amenities, such as squash courts, rock climbing walls, and children’s play areas, as outlined on the building’s website.

The building also offers some affordable housing options.

One resident shared their concerns with a local news outlet, expressing unease about the incident happening so close to home. “I think this is scary. It’s weird to think this is happening near my home,” they remarked.

Another resident echoed similar sentiments, saying, “It’s crazy to see something like this on the sidewalk of my building. Living here has been a great experience, so it’s particularly surprising that this kind of thing happened.” Neighbors also mentioned ongoing issues with youth in the vicinity.

This incident is part of a recent trend of youth-related violence in the city. Earlier that day, a 14-year-old was shot in Cypress Hill, Brooklyn, and taken to Lij Medical Center in stable condition.

Authorities reported that two male suspects from that incident escaped, and no arrests have been made.

Later, another shooting occurred in East New York, where a 19-year-old was shot in the shoulder on a residential property. He was standing nearby when the shots were fired and was transported to Brookdale Hospital, also in stable condition.

As of now, police have not made any arrests related to that shooting either.
