High-Speed Chase Ends in Rollover for Stolen SUV

In a dramatic incident captured on dashcam, a 17-year-old boy led police on a high-speed chase through a residential area in Georgia. The pursuit reached speeds of 115 miles per hour before the SUV ultimately rolled over.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday about a stolen vehicle in Newnan, roughly 40 miles southwest of Atlanta. After receiving the report, Lt. Akin began to search for the red SUV.

As the vehicle sped past Lt. Akin and Deputy Nelson on Antioch Road, the driver disregarded attempts to stop him and accelerated rapidly.

Video footage reveals the stolen SUV weaving through oncoming traffic, endangering the safety of others. Officers noted the “extreme danger” posed to the public and considered calling off the chase just as the vehicle lost control and rolled over.

Post-crash video shows deputies surrounding the flipped vehicle with weapons drawn, instructing the driver to raise his hands before making the arrest.

The driver, identified as Taylor Simpson, had been reported missing by authorities in Newnan. Fortunately, he was not seriously hurt and was removed from the SUV without any major injuries.

After the incident, Simpson was taken into custody and faces a slew of charges, including speeding, reckless driving, and providing a false name to officers. Bail has been set at $6,500 total for various offenses, with Simpson currently held without bail in Fayette County Jail.
