Teen fatally shoots herself in LA sheriff’s station with deputy’s gun

A 17-year-old girl grabbed a deputy’s gun and shot herself at a Los Angeles sheriff’s station over the weekend, authorities said.

The girl knocked on the front door of the Industry City station around 7:40 p.m., and when deputies answered the door, she “ran into the lobby and grabbed the gun in the deputy’s holster.” “I reached out and picked it up.” Los Angeles County Sheriff said.

The girl started making noise and banging on the windows inside the station. According to the Los Angeles Times.

“A struggle ensued between the deputy and the juvenile, who was armed with the deputy’s gun,” officials said. “During the struggle, the boy sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Officials said she was unarmed before entering the building.

Officials told the newspaper that the incident may have stemmed from a nearby family dispute.

None of the lawmakers were injured, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone else was in the lobby at the time.

The girl’s name has not been released by authorities, but she is believed to be 17 years old, the news station reported. ABC7 reported.

This incident is under investigation.
