Teen Charged with Arson for Setting Fire to Baseball Team Bus
A Canadian teenager is now facing charges of arson after allegedly setting fire to a charter bus belonging to an American professional baseball team during a trip in Winnipeg, Canada.
The Kane County Cougars, an independent baseball team from the U.S., were scheduled to play against the Winnipeg Goldeyes when the incident occurred.
On May 21, law enforcement responded to the scene outside Blue Cross Park, where the team bus was fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities have determined that the fire was set intentionally. Initially, two teenagers were taken into custody, but only a 15-year-old girl has been charged with arson and the criminal possession of incendiary materials.
The other teen has since been released to a responsible adult, according to police reports.
Winnipeg police stated, “The entire bus and its contents were destroyed.”
Jackson Greteman, Operations Manager of Windstar, expressed disappointment over the incident, stating that it would have a significant impact on their family-owned business. “We’re relieved that no one was hurt in this reckless act of vandalism,” he added, noting their cooperation with local authorities.
The estimated damage to the bus and the equipment was around $425,000.
Authorities are still investigating and have yet to reveal a possible motive for the act.
