Friends and family are mourning the loss of a 16-year-old girl who was fatally shot in an apartment located in a wealthy Chicago suburb.

Lily Bova was shot early Saturday in an unincorporated area of Glenview, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency services arrived around 11 a.m. and provided life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding Bova’s death, but details about a suspect are currently unavailable.

On Monday morning, police updated the community, assuring residents that the incident was isolated and posed no further threat. They encouraged anyone with relevant information to step forward.

“She was such a wonderful person, always smiling. It’s just really sad,” commented Samuel Thompson, a friend of Bova’s. Another friend, Rice Burdick, added, “Honestly, she was really nice, kind-hearted. You’d never expect this kind of thing in a nice neighborhood where everyone knows each other.”

The school that Bova attended, Glenbrook South High School, expressed its condolences through a letter sent to the community, emphasizing their sadness over the tragic event.

“We are devastated to announce the passing of sophomore Lily Bova, who tragically died in her home on Saturday, March 28th. Our thoughts are with her family as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” the letter stated.

It continued, noting that while Lily was a quiet individual, her teachers and peers described her as deeply loving and optimistic. Her positive spirit will be profoundly missed.

The school is responding to the emotional impact of Bova’s death by providing social workers to assist affected students.

Glenview is usually regarded as a safe, upscale suburb of Chicago.
