Texas Repeat Offender Charged with Murder
A Texas man, Johnny Lilly, is back in prison after allegedly killing a man while on release. Lilly, just 19 years old, is accused of fatally shooting 29-year-old Jermacus Johnson in Houston on September 22, 2025.
Reports indicate that Lilly was taken into custody in June 2024 for supposedly buying a gun illegally. He was already on probation for a previous conviction related to car burglary.
Interestingly, he has a lengthy criminal history stretching over two decades. Notably, he is suspected of having killed someone in a hit-and-run before moving on to more reckless behavior, such as street racing. Police have stated that he has been known to race at speeds of 166 mph.
According to an advocate from Houston Crime Stoppers, Lilly was found in possession of a machine gun, which is particularly concerning given his probationary status. Despite these serious accusations, he was granted bail and released from jail after facing additional charges.
Lilly was reportedly out on bail and under supervision from the county’s Probation Department and Pretrial Services when more charges related to another car theft emerged.
Experts express frustration, noting that Lilly had been released on multiple bonds and remained on probation simultaneously. There are claims that since his release, he has violated bail conditions at least six times.
After his release, he allegedly shot Johnson during what was claimed to be a dice game gone wrong. Some believe that had his probation or bond been revoked at any point, the situation may have unfolded differently, potentially saving Johnson’s life.
Currently, Lilly is in custody, facing murder charges, with bail set at $250,000. The community is left questioning how such repeated offenses led to his release in the first place, with concerns about public safety looming large.
The Harris County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet provided a comment on the matter.
