A California teenage mother was killed on Tuesday when a “large bird” struck the windshield of her car while she was driving home from school.
At the time of the incident, Abigail “Grace” Callaham, 17, was in a car with Thomas Kennedy, 18, after leaving Belton-Honea Pass High School early and were driving down the road when a bird flew out of a tree and struck their windshield.
“The vehicle veered off to the right side of the roadway and then overcorrected, crossed the center line and struck a tree,” the Anderson County Coroner's Office said in a statement.
The driver, Mr Kennedy, was taken to hospital in critical condition, while Mr Callaham, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.
