A 15-year-old man was arrested shortly after the stabbing and charged with second-degree murder, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Two days later, a judge allowed the boy's name to be released despite his age and scheduled a hearing for Jan. 14 on whether the juvenile suspect should be tried as an adult, 6 News reported. Fox News Digital will not release the suspect's name until it is determined whether he will be charged as an adult.

Copeland, a former cheerleader for Powell Mack Cheerleading, was a talented student who also excelled in karate and gymnastics, her family said in her obituary. Her father told 8WVLT the boy had “energy, enthusiasm and…a can-do attitude.”
