14-Year-Old Arrested for Armed Robbery of Lemonade Stand in South Boston
Authorities announced on Friday that a 14-year-old has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a children’s lemonade stand in South Boston last week.
The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon near West 9th Street. Reports indicate that two suspects approached two children who were managing the stand, seized a safe, and displayed a firearm during the robbery.
The arrested suspect faces several charges related to firearms, including two counts of armed robbery and two counts of illegal possession of a weapon.
As of now, the second suspect is still at large.
It was reported that the lemonade stand was operated by an 11-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother.
According to the Boston Police Department (BPD), the suspects had strolled past the stand several times before approaching and inquiring if they could use Apple Pay.
Before the children could respond, one of the suspects grabbed the safe while another displayed a black firearm tucked in his waistband, police stated.
Approximately $50 was stolen from the safe, as reported by Boston Herald.
The 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Friday after police released surveillance video and images of both suspects the previous afternoon, hoping to gather leads.
The video showed the suspects with their faces covered and one of them carrying a black backpack along with a pink box that seemed to contain cash.
Officials indicated that the arrested boy will be treated as a juvenile delinquent and will face charges for delinquency in Boston Juvenile Court.
Police are continuing their investigation and encourage anyone who has information about the second suspect to reach out to detectives at (617) 343-4742.
