A teenage girl who appeared to be train surfing at a Maryland subway station died Friday, police said.

According to WTTG, Metropolitan Transit Police responded to a report of a dead girl on a train in Silver Spring around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said the incident appears to be a train surfing incident. Additional information about the victim has not yet been released. WTTG reported that the investigation was still ongoing as of Friday.

Police initially said the victim was a man, but later said it was a teenage girl, according to WTTG.

Trains traveling between Silver Spring and Forest Glen stations were operating on a single track, the paper said.

“We are deeply saddened to learn this morning that a teenage girl lost her life while riding outside of a vehicle on the way to the Silver Spring train station. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family.” Metro, shared by X Previously on Twitter.

“Riding outside the train is dangerous, illegal, and likely to result in serious injury or death. Bulkhead doors between cars warn customers that walking between cars is prohibited except in an emergency. “Signs have been posted to indicate this,” the statement continued.
