It seems this social media prank backfired.
Two teenagers have been arrested after a video of them joyriding lawn mowers inside a Florida Target gained a lot of attention online.
Cellphone footage showed 18-year-old Yanek Škaladek, dressed in denim overalls and a straw hat, unloading a lawnmower from a trailer and goofing off inside the Ocala store on Saturday afternoon.
Another teen, Pal Luke Charske, 18, was arrested as well; he’s suspected of filming the incident, which police say led to significant damage.
Vanessa Scarlett, a surprised shopper who recorded the event herself, commented, “He actually ran straight into the door first and broke it open.”
Scarlett, who was unfamiliar with either teen, added, “You never expect a lawnmower to come through the door inside a Target.”
Reports indicate that damage from the incident was still visible the following day, with broken glass at the store entrance boarded up.
Škaladek and Charske face charges of mischief and disorderly conduct due to their actions. Charske is specifically charged as a principal for allegedly recording the stunt.
A spokesperson for the Ocala Police Department stated, “These actions put people at risk and caused property damage. These are crimes, not innocent videos.”
The two teens were released on Sunday, according to jail records.
Witness Scarlett reflected, “I think these are definitely teenagers who have faced consequences that many would say are self-inflicted.” She also expressed some sympathy, noting, “But I also want to give them some respite. They are teenage boys.”
