Tennessee boy dies in freak accident involving haunted hayride: authorities

A child was killed in a freak accident at a haunted hayride attraction over the weekend, according to authorities in Tennessee.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) announced the incident in a press release on Saturday. Deputies were called to the Haunted Hilltop Halloween attraction in Harrison, Tennessee, around 10:45 p.m. Friday night.

Upon arrival, officials learned that the boy, who was playing a prank on hayrides, had been hit by a tractor.

“Upon arrival, HCSO deputies located a group of juveniles who were playing near the hayride tractor route and were behind some bushes attempting to scare several hayrides at the Haunted Hilltop Halloween event. “We spoke with him,” HCSO said.

“Deputies were advised that one of the juveniles may have attempted to jump onto the trailer, slipped and fallen under the wheels, and was found unresponsive.”

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office told local media that the boy was 12 years old. The sheriff's office expressed its sympathies to the victim's family in a press release.

“The HCSO family extends its thoughts and sympathies to the family of the deceased boy and to others who witnessed the tragic event,” the statement said. “We ask the community [to] Please also keep this family in your prayers during this difficult time. ”

“As this case involves a juvenile, no further information is available.”

Haunted Hilltop announced in a Facebook post that it would be closing the next day and asked the community for prayers.

“Due to a tragic accident that occurred tonight, we will be closed tomorrow Saturday,” the page wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families affected. [sic] Please keep us all in your prayers during this! ”

On Monday night, Haunted Hilltop told FOX News Digital that it is closed until further notice.

“We are heartbroken and devastated to learn about this family,” the company said in a statement. “We never thought about it [reopening] But this was a terrible accident. ”
