A Tennessee mother expressed her intention to purchase a clock for her kids after an incredible incident involving a lawnmower nearly injured her 3-year-old daughter.
Alison Dorton, 33, shared that her youngest daughter, Sofia, was playing in their backyard when the incident occurred. She captured the moment in a TikTok video, which gained considerable attention.
Sofia’s feet got caught in a lawnmower, prompting her father to rush over and call for emergency help.
“Accidents happen, and they’re quite funny at times,” Dorton stated in a heartfelt video.
Fortunately, the child’s Crocs stopped the mower’s blades before they could inflict serious damage, which her mother believes likely saved her legs.
“If she hadn’t been wearing those Crocs, it could have been much worse,” the emotional mother remarked, adding a sense of gratitude for the miracle shoes. The mower left about three inches of damage to Sofia’s heel, but thankfully missed the crucial bones and tendons.
“I will forever buy them clocks for the rest of their lives,” she noted.
Dorton embraced her daughter’s favorite shoes, her voice shaking with emotion as she recollected the ordeal on TikTok. “Her little tie-dye shoes are mostly unmarked, save for some blood and grass stains,” she shared.
This unusual accident unfolded on the morning of May 7. Dorton became alarmed when she was bombarded with calls from her eldest son, Trip.
Eventually, Trip sent a distressing text, saying, “Sofia is hurt. It’s bad.”
Upon calling back, she could hear her husband, Matthew, talking to a 911 operator, realizing the severity of the situation.
“Most guys don’t call 911 without good reason,” she said, reflecting on her husband’s abrupt action.
Upon arrival, she saw an ambulance treating Sofia, whose legs were wrapped and connected to an IV.
“It felt surreal,” she recalled. “I couldn’t see the injury well but noticed it was serious when the EMT mentioned it wasn’t good.”
The paramedics urged them to hurry to the hospital at high speed.
Later, doctors stitched her up while Sofia held onto a stuffed bunny during her recovery in the hospital.
“She’s on the mend now. We frequently check in with her pediatrician to ensure she’s healing properly,” Dorton explained.
Praising her daughter for being a “champion” through it all, she mentioned that Sofia had broken one stitch but, after consulting with medical professionals, they decided it wasn’t necessary to replace it.
As for herself, she joked, “I’ve become quite skilled at bandaging!”
Interestingly, Dorton’s endorsement of Crocs highlights a rare perspective, as such brands often face criticism for being risky rather than protective. Just recently, multiple schools across various states have banned Crocs, citing concerns for student safety during emergencies, while popular theme parks have also prohibited them to avoid escalator accidents.
