Tennessee hands out charges to 5 in brutal baseball bat, skillet assault

Tennessee authorities confirm five people were arrested over the weekend on multiple charges in connection with an August 2023 attempted murder attack with a baseball bat and frying pan that left the victim with a fractured skull. did.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office announced that the charges against the five suspects stem from an investigation into an incident on August 19, 2023. In this incident, officers responded to a report of an assault in which the 29-year-old victim had an apparent head injury. .

Deputies say the male victim was unable to speak at the time due to the severity of his injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, investigators said they spoke with the victim’s family, who told them the victim had called them in distress and asked them to come and help.

The victim’s mother told deputies that the victim stated that he had been attacked by multiple subjects and that they used a baseball bat, brass knuckles, and a cast iron frying pan to assault him. The family also provided agents with the names of the individuals the victim identified as those who attacked him.

Law enforcement said they responded to the boat dock where the incident occurred and found the victim’s vehicle, along with a pool of blood and a broken cast iron skillet next to the vehicle.

After processing the scene, deputies were advised by medical staff that the victim had suffered a skull fracture.

Earlier this month, a Carter County grand jury returned an indictment charging five people in connection with the incident:
