The Tennessee softball star has made its way into the NCAA record book.
Lady volunteer pitcher Carlin Pickens took the mound on Monday and continued to pitch the fastest pitch in college softball history. The Pickens' historic pitch came in six innings of the Tennessee state game against Arkansas.
Her pitch recorded time at 78.2 mph.

The Pickens had a previous top speed of 77 mph, which tied it to former Tennessee pitcher Monica Abbott.
Abbott set the mark during the 2012 National Pro Fast Pitch game against Carolina Diamonds. The Pickens were already pitching two pitches this season, reaching 77 miles.

The Pickens were asked about a special moment after the Lady Volunteers won the Lady Razorbacks 3-2.

“There were a lot of emotions. At first I was very excited to celebrate it with a team. It's so cool to realise that way than finding it at home after the game,” Pickens said. Knoxville News Sentinel.

The Pickens did not give up on a hit in 4.1 innings on the mound. She also hit six Arkansas batsmen.
“And that was kind of emotional. All the work we took in as a pitching staff and as everyone who helped me coach — it was a truly surreal moment. It was really special,” she added.

The Pickens received the SEC Pitcher of the Year honors last season. She has a 0.86 ERA in 89.1 innings.
