Tennessee Special Election Key for Power Balance in Congress

Republican Candidate Highlights Importance of Tennessee Election

Matt Van Epps, the Republican candidate for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, emphasized the significance of the upcoming special election, stating it plays a crucial role in determining Congress’s balance of power during a recent appearance on a show. He noted that today’s election, set for December 12, is pivotal in the contest against Democratic state Rep. Aftin Behn.

“This election is vital for the House’s balance of power,” Epps explained. “The outcome could hinge on just one vote, especially with potential resignations looming.” He pointed out California’s situation as an example where a single vote could tip the scales.

“A one-vote difference matters immensely. This seat is essential for us, and we need to win it. This is about the very framework of America—where we want to steer our country. We aim to keep America First at the forefront, maintain lower living costs, enforce border security, and uphold fairness in sports,” he added.

Further stressing today’s campaign importance, Epps remarked, “Every vote counts as we consider the Republican Party’s future, especially heading into 2026.” He suggested that those voting today are shaping the nation’s direction.

“When we don our jerseys and hit the field, we’re confident of our victory,” he continued.

In discussing Republicans’ strategies to tackle affordability issues, Epps mentioned the need for maintaining low taxes and reducing regulations. He stated, “Affordable housing near job opportunities is essential. I support nuclear energy, and Tennessee leads in this area. We’re on track to construct the first small modular nuclear reactor by 2032 at Clinch River in East Tennessee. Getting this done safely and quickly is crucial for our future in energy.”

He added, “This initiative will enhance the economy, making food and utility costs lower, thereby supporting our farmers.” Epps sees energy independence as a vital component of affordability.

Addressing healthcare concerns, he said, “We must push for price transparency and ensure clear quality standards so consumers can make smart choices. Expanding health savings accounts is another priority. From the outset, our focus will be on supporting working families, farmers, and veterans in the district.”
