Tennessee Woman Arrested for Attempted Drowning of Child
This week, authorities in Tennessee arrested a woman for allegedly trying to drown one of her children in a swimming pool located in her backyard. The incident involved 31-year-old Michaelie Ray Beirne from Johnson City, who faces charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect following an event that took place on July 15, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Cochran Street at around 5 p.m. Witnesses claimed that Beirne was supervising several children while another adult was inside the house. One of the children ran in to inform the adult that Beirne was thought to have pushed another child into the water.
Upon arriving at the scene, the adult quickly demanded that Beirne release the child; however, she refused, per authorities. Eventually, adults managed to separate Beirne from the child and assisted in pulling the child out of the pool. After Beirne’s interaction with another adult, she left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Emergency medical service was called, and the child was taken inside the house with some minor injuries and bruises. Police soon located Beirne and arrested her on-site. She is currently held at the Washington County Detention Center, with bail set at $50,000.
