The party in the back was pretty long for one Tennessee woman.
Knoxville nurse Tami Manis holds a Guinness World Record for longest female mullet with gorgeous hair at 5 feet 8 inches.
“I’m very happy with my hair growing out and now being the longest mullet in the world,” said Mannis, a public health nurse with the Tennessee National Guard.
She started growing her hair out in the 1980s after seeing the music video for the song “Voice Carry” from “Till Tuesday.”
In the video, the singer defends her hair and cares about her boyfriend’s derogatory comments.
“She had a mouse and I really wanted one,” Manis, 58, said.
However, when she went to a local barber shop in November 1989, the hairdresser said the style didn’t suit her, and she decided to cut it off.
However, Manis soon regretted the decision and began to extend the date to February 9, 1990 again. We now consider that day to be Bora’s birthday. She hasn’t cut it since.
Since then, the style has become almost synonymous with Manis, and the nurse said people remember her especially because of her unique style.
“The strangest thing is that people remember me from years ago.” she told Guinness. “I’ve been wearing the same hairstyle for 20 years, so people recognize me.”
The mullet is also a conversation starter among friends and family, she said, noting that most people don’t realize how long her hair is until she turns around.
Manise attributes her gorgeous hair to superior genetics.
But to keep it up, she’s washing her hair with Husk hair care products, including conditioners infused with argan oil and leave-in conditioners.
Manis said she uses paper towels to dry her hair after shampooing and conditioning so that it doesn’t get wet.
After that, her friend came by once a week to braid her hair so she wouldn’t trip. Manise says she stays in that style until the next wash.
“Most of the time people around me know it’s a braid, but it’s still very impressive at that point,” she said.
Manis has tried to win awards for her signature looks in the past, and last year competed in the ‘femlet’ category at the 2022 U.S. Bola Championships. The contest is the largest of its kind in the world, with over 1,000 entrants participating each year.
Unfortunately, Manis only took home $300 for second place, losing out to Alexa Lindsay of Holland, Michigan, who won the top prize of $500.
But shortly after, Guinness announced that it was calling for the “longest competitive mullet” for the World Records award, and she felt encouraged to apply.
After several meetings with company representatives, a cameraman met with her at her home in Knoxville and a videographer recorded a judge measuring her hair.
She said she first learned she had won the prize when she received a package at her door containing an official Guinness World Records certificate.
“I just checked with the gentleman at Guinness World Records and they double-checked that I’m actually on the 2024 edition of the Guinness World Records for Longest Mullet, which is pretty amazing,” Mannis said. .
