Anna Kalinskaya, a 26-year-old tennis player from Russia, is on a quest for her first Grand Slam singles title. Interestingly, it seems that she has caught the attention of some male players on the circuit, including Danish star Holger Rune. In a recent interview, Kalinskaya mentioned Rune as someone who often reaches out to her via direct messages on social media.
During the chat, she reflected on her current mindset, saying, “I think I’m focusing too much on myself,” which is why she tends to overlook Rune’s messages. She explained, “In the past, tennis players often asked me out. But now that I’m older, I’m not sure if some even consider it a possibility anymore. Some guys have written to me several times before deciding to give up.” Kalinskaya went on to express that Rune, in particular, is quite proactive in reaching out, implying that it’s perhaps a bit excessive.
In response to her comments, Rune shared his thoughts on social media, acknowledging potential cultural differences that might lead Anna to misinterpret his intentions as merely friendly.
Kalinskaya, who has previously dated Jannik Sinner, holds one singles title and four doubles titles, but her journey in Grand Slam tournaments has been rather challenging this year. She didn’t compete in the Australian Open and faced early exits in the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, having only progressed to the second round in those events. The furthest she advanced was in the 2024 Wimbledon round.
Currently, Kalinskaya is ranked 32nd in the world, and her journey in tennis continues to unfold.
