The Jets and Bills will face off for the first time since last November's matchup ended in a postgame skirmish in the tunnel leading to the locker room.
Bills tackle Dion Dawkins and Jets defensive end Michael Clemons were at the center of the jostling, with some tense exchanges on the field in the fourth quarter. This offseason, Dawkins called Clemons a “shithole” and said on his podcast that he hates the Jets.
“He said a lot of things. I don't really care,” Jets linebacker CJ Mosley said. “We'll be on the field soon, so he'll be able to give it his all then if he wants to. I'm really looking forward to it.”
Clemons declined to speak to reporters this week. When asked about the post-game brawl on VladTV in February, Dawkins replied, “Weird people are weirdos.” Clemons also said he didn't really want to fight him.
“If you want to catch up with someone, try your hardest to catch up with someone,” Dawkins said. “Don't run up and stop five yards back and just start talking. So when he did that, I said, 'First of all, you really don't want to fight me. ”You really are an idiot. ” ”
Dawkins said he respects defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, but not other Jets players.
“I hate them all, brother. … When it comes to sports, some people play that sport because they love it, and some people play that sport just to be cool,” Dawkins said. . “I feel like they're doing sports to try to be cool. It's just a bunch of guys who just want to take pictures for Instagram. It's amazing.”
Dawkins met with reporters in Buffalo this week and said he expected tensions.
“I think we've played the Jets over and over again, twice a year, over the years, and like I said, the tension is very high,” Dawkins said.
Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel said the defense hasn't performed as well as he expected coming into the season.
“We're not where we want to be, I can tell you that,” Manuel said. “Defensively, we are not at the level we would like from that point of view. We left chances out there. We have done a lot of good things, but I We still haven't achieved the consistency that we set as a standard. It's the players in the locker room and the coaches going back to the details and understanding the little things we have to do to win games. I'm doing it.”
The Jets currently rank second in the NFL in yards allowed per game.
