Teoscar Hernández’s Injury Update

Teoscar Hernández is making a swift recovery from his recent injury, which is definitely good news for the Dodgers.

On the other hand, Tyler Glasnow is facing a tougher situation.

Hernández, expected to be sidelined for about a month due to his hamstring injury, is now close to making a return in less than three weeks. On Monday, he participated in pregame activities, including batting practice. Manager Dave Roberts mentioned that if things keep moving in the right direction, Hernández might start minor league rehab assignments as soon as this weekend.

Roberts had positive remarks about Hernández, who has achieved a .276 batting average and .785 OPS this season. “His strength is impressive. He’s running at 20 miles per hour, which is fantastic,” Roberts noted. It’s noticeable that Hernández was starting to find his rhythm before he strained his hamstring while running to first base on May 27th.

Roberts added, “We’re focused on ensuring his swing is back to where it needs to be so he can pick up where he left off. Last year’s situation wasn’t ideal. We rushed him back after a groin injury, and it just didn’t work out.” There’s a sense of urgency this time around to ensure that Hernández is physically ready and that his swing reflects his true capability.

Challenges for Tyler Glasnow

Conversely, Tyler Glasnow’s situation isn’t quite as uplifting.

Originally, when Glasnow was sidelined due to back spasms just one inning into his start against the Houston Astros in early May, he was hopeful about a quick comeback. However, it’s now been over a month, and according to Roberts, Glasnow “hasn’t done anything.” He continues to deal with back discomfort but is reportedly making some progress.

The team is optimistic that Glasnow will start to feel better in the coming days. Meanwhile, the rotation has coped without him, aided by Justin Robleski, Roki Sasaki, and the newly acquired Eric Lauer. Blake Snell, who is also on the mend post-surgery for an elbow issue, has begun playing catch again.

This injury is particularly frustrating for Glasnow. Throughout his 11-year career, he’s faced numerous health challenges, having only pitched over 100 innings in three seasons.

Additional Injury News

In a related update, Roberts confirmed that Tommy Edman, who has been recovering from ankle surgery this winter, will be taken off the injured reserve list on Tuesday.
