Terri Clark praises Ella Langley's remarkable ascent but notes she 'would not want to swap places with her'

Terri Clark Reflects on Ella Langley’s Success

Country music icon Terri Clark has ample experience navigating the Nashville scene, but she wouldn’t swap her life with rising star Ella Langley right now. Despite Langley’s remarkable success in 2026, particularly with her chart-topping hit “Choosin’ Texas,” Clark recognizes the sacrifices that often accompany such fame.

“I would not want to trade places with her at all,” Clark shared in a recent interview.

In September, Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” made headlines by surpassing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” setting the record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 with 23 weeks at the top. While Clark celebrates Langley’s achievements, she also wishes for a broader representation of women in country music, noting that the success isn’t evenly distributed.

“It’s like women went from famine to feast all of a sudden, but it’s not across the board,” she observed. “I wish it was a bit more widespread among other female artists, too.”

Looking at Langley, Clark feels a sense of pride knowing that a woman is breaking barriers and setting records. “I’m just glad the person breaking all the records is a female, and I’m happy it’s her. She deserves this.” Clark also praised Langley’s album, “Dandelion,” and expressed her admiration for Langley’s character, suggesting she’d like to chat over coffee to see how she manages the pressures of sudden fame.

“It’s a lot emotionally and psychologically,” Clark remarked.

However, Langley’s rise hasn’t come without challenges. She’s faced backlash online, including scrutiny over past hunting photos and accusations of being manufactured by the industry. Such controversies highlight the intense public scrutiny that often accompanies quick ascents to stardom. Clark acknowledged this duality: “That level of success is a blessing and a curse at the same time, and managing both sides is crucial.” She believes Langley has the strength to navigate these waters.

The Balance of Fame

With over five million albums sold and a place in the Grand Ole Opry, Clark remains grounded. Unlike many stars, she’s been able to maintain a level of anonymity. “I can still go to the grocery store in a ball cap,” she noted, reflecting on how some country legends, like Reba McEntire and the late Dolly Parton, have lost that privacy.

At 58, Clark feels she has struck a solid balance that allows her to pursue her career while enjoying life’s simpler joys. “I’m grateful to make a living doing what I love and still go about my everyday life,” she shared. “I’m just too boring and normal to be that interesting to many people.” Despite her achievements, Clark appreciates the ability to remain relatively under the radar while still doing what she loves.
