Ohio Authorities Uncover Disturbing Case of Child Murder

Law enforcement in Ohio has reported that three individuals plotted the torture and murder of a 7-year-old boy. They, allegedly, had plans in place to kidnap and ultimately kill him.

During a news conference, Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Connie Pillich shared that the investigation revealed text messages from the Signal encryption app, indicating a conspiracy among the suspects.

“They utterly failed as parents. Instead, they committed heinous acts which caused this child incredible suffering,” Pillich remarked.

As previously reported, the young boy, William Evans Ellis, was discovered deceased, bound and wrapped in duct tape, inside a closet at his mother’s apartment in Oakley, where he lived with two others.

Pillich mentioned that William had been dead for at least a day before his body was found. The suspects had taken their dog to the vet just a day prior to the discovery, which raises questions about whether the dog was already deceased at that point.

Caitlin Evans, 38, the boy’s biological mother, along with Nessa Keeney, 23, and Kirby Rankin, 33, were all arrested. They face numerous charges—over a dozen, including aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, and felonious assault.

Interestingly, while Keeney and Rankin are identified as female by media outlets, police records indicate that both are biologically male.

The coroner’s report stated that William died from blunt force trauma to the head. Additionally, there were several other injuries suggesting he had suffered severe, long-term abuse.

“The adults responsible for his care failed him entirely,” Pillich said. “At just seven years old, he was vulnerable, dependent on those around him for protection, yet he endured unimaginable abuse and ultimately lost his life.”

The documented injuries included broken bones, numerous bruises, burn scars, and evidence suggestive of waterboarding.

“This situation is horrific, monstrous, and beyond comprehension,” Pillich added. “They miserably failed as parents, perpetrating acts of cruelty and inflicting tremendous suffering on this child.”

These charges could result in a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Pillich expressed her distress over the case, stating, “It’s deeply unsettling from the onset. While we cannot reverse the tragedy that befell this child, we are committed to thoroughly investigating his death and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable in court.”

The trio is currently being held on bail set at $1.1 million each, with legal representatives for both men formally requesting evaluations of their competency.
