Terron Armstead Retires from NFL After 12 Seasons
Terron Armstead has announced his retirement from the NFL following a notable 12-year career split between the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. At just 33 years old, this fall marks a significant change for him as he won’t be participating in football activities for the first time.
Armstead has opened up about his challenges with severe injuries that ultimately pushed him to make this decision. He aims to share his experiences to connect with current players facing similar struggles in the league.
“Now that I’m finished, I want to start telling my story,” he explained during an event at Fanatics Fest. “There are players still out there going through tough times, and I want to provide a voice for them. It’s like, fans might not know the whole story behind injuries. I don’t want to make excuses for not performing, even if the struggles are real,” he added.
Fans often overlook the toll that a demanding schedule, like the 17-game season, takes on players—especially those in positions like Armstead’s. He revealed that he dealt with a persistent knee issue for years, one that began during his third season in the NFL. “I honestly couldn’t train because it felt like I couldn’t walk properly,” he remarked.
He described the lengths he went to in order to stay on the field, noting how after one game he couldn’t walk without assistance until midweek, relying on painkillers to manage his situation.
Reflecting on retirement, Armstead is confident he won’t find himself tempted to return to the field. “I think I’m at peace with this decision. I’m looking forward to sharing my insights and experiences regarding the game,” he said.
“After so many years in football — since I was five — it’s a bittersweet moment. This will be my first year away from the game, and I’m curious to see how life unfolds without it.” Armstead is eager to remain involved in football, hoping to influence the game and support those still risking their health for success.
