Terrorist Plot Thwarted in Michigan Ahead of Halloween
The FBI recently announced that an arrest in Michigan prevented a terrorist attack that was scheduled for Halloween weekend. Director Kash Patel cited minimal details regarding the operation, but Sebastian Gorka, who serves as a deputy aide to former President Donald Trump, took to social media to assert that the planned attack was “jihad” oriented.
“The FBI successfully thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested several individuals in Michigan believed to be plotting violent acts,” he stated.
Gorka further noted on social media, “Earlier today, federal agents were able to foil a jihadist plot in Detroit just before Halloween, a time when kids are out trick-or-treating.” He emphasized, “The threat is real.”
The Dearborn Police Department confirmed an FBI operation took place on Friday morning, assuring that the public was no longer in danger.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice added that the operation involved the city of Inkster, also near Detroit, indicating a broader scope than initially reported.
“This morning, the FBI thwarted a potential terror attack and arrested multiple individuals in Michigan who were suspected of planning violent actions over Halloween weekend,” Patel remarked, promising further details to come and expressing gratitude for the ongoing vigilance of law enforcement.
Reports indicated that the FBI’s operations particularly focused on a storage facility on Michigan Avenue in Inkster. However, additional FBI activities in two other locations remain unconfirmed regarding their connection to the alleged terrorist scheme.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer commented, “I received updates from Secretary Patel about the thwarted terrorist plot in our state. While more details continue to unfold, I’m grateful for the quick response from the FBI and MSP in ensuring the safety of Michigan residents.”
Dearborn, notable for being the first Arab-majority city in the U.S. in 2023, has recently faced tensions. In September, Mayor Abdullah Hammoud criticized local Christian residents opposing the city’s tribute to a pro-Islamic terrorism speaker, calling them “bigots” and stating they were unwelcome.
