Terry McLaurin Signs Contract Extension with Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders reportedly finalized a three-year contract extension on Monday, just weeks ahead of the regular season kickoff.

McLaurin had been pushing for a new deal since the beginning of training camp. Initially, he even skipped summer training, which raised some eyebrows. Upon his return, he faced challenges in fulfilling team requirements, and at one point, he even requested a trade when talks went stagnant.

The contract is valued at $96 million. Co-owner Magic Johnson praised the efforts of his partner, Josh Harris, and GM Adam Peters in securing this deal. Johnson emphasized McLaurin’s value beyond football, highlighting his leadership and significant contributions to the community.

Selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, McLaurin has been a standout player, consistently performing well despite the team’s struggles. He’s achieved at least 1,000 receiving yards for five consecutive seasons.

Last season alone, McLaurin had 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, making him a key figure as the team’s offense gears up for the upcoming season. With the New York Giants slated to visit on September 7, Giants head coach Brianda Ball has already acknowledged McLaurin’s impressive skill set.

“He’s a dynamic and versatile player,” Daboll remarked, noting how productive McLaurin was working with rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels last year.
