It seems that Terry McLaurin has had enough of the Commanders.
The star wide receiver has reportedly asked for a trade from Washington, as first noted by NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Thursday. This move makes him one of the most appealing players on the NFL trade market right now.
Entering the final year of a three-year, $68.4 million deal, McLaurin has been vocal about wanting an extension throughout the offseason.
The 29-year-old showed up on Sunday with an ankle injury after missing the first four days of Washington’s training camp, necessitating his placement on the physically unable to perform list.
On July 15, the two-time Pro Bowler expressed that he wanted to remain with the team, but he was clearly frustrated with the slow progress on his contract situation.
“I wasn’t going to lie,” McLaurin told reporters. “Everything that happened is pretty disappointing. I want to continue my career here; I want to be here because I’ve made my life here.”
Earlier in the summer, he faced a fine of $105,000 for skipping the Commanders’ mandatory minicamp, which later escalated to over $300,000 due to missing the initial days of training camp.
McLaurin has spent all six years of his NFL career with the Commanders and played a crucial role last season. The team finished 12-5 but lost to the Eagles, the eventual Super Bowl champions, in the NFC Championship game, where rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was also a standout.
The chemistry between McLaurin and Daniels was evident, as they connected for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season, plus another 227 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs.
If McLaurin does end up traded, newly acquired Deebo Samuel would likely step into the WR1 position, with Noah Brown and tight end Zack Ertz also playing significant roles in the receiving corps.
Washington is set to kick off their regular season against the Giants at home on September 7th.
