Terry McLaurin’s Discontent with Contract Negotiations

Washington’s standout wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, is expressing frustration over the current discussions regarding a contract extension with the team.

At 29 years old, McLaurin had one of his strongest seasons last year, playing a crucial role in leading his team to the NFC Championship Game.

He amassed 1,096 receiving yards on 82 catches, not to mention scoring 13 touchdowns. His playoff performance was also impressive, with 14 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns across three games.

McLaurin recently made his second Pro Bowl appearance and is now seeking to be compensated among the elite wide receivers in the NFL.

He is in the final year of a three-year, $68 million contract extension he signed in June 2022.

Expressing his displeasure, McLaurin shared, “I was very frustrated” about the ongoing negotiation process. He added that he had hoped to continue his career with Washington, having settled into life there—he and his wife even bought their first home together.

In 2022, McLaurin skipped mandatory mini-camp to negotiate a better deal. Now, he is contemplating whether he would take the same route and miss training camp if his concerns aren’t addressed.

“We haven’t decided on that yet,” McLaurin said, indicating uncertainty about his next steps. “I’m just trying to embrace each day.” He noted that it’s disappointing that the talks haven’t progressed as he hoped.

Last season, McLaurin was an invaluable asset for quarterback Jaden Daniels, establishing himself as a top target throughout his six years with the team.
