Tesla’s Cybertruck, Elon Musk | Fox Business

If you’ve noticed more and more Tesla Cybertrucks being seen, you’re not alone.

The electric vehicle maker led by Elon Musk sold 11,558 of its futuristic trucks in the U.S. in the first half of the year, up from 2,803 in the first quarter and 8,755 in the second. Quote Manufactured by Cox Automotive.

The roughly 8,800 Cybertrucks sold in the second quarter outsold the Ford F-150 Lightning during the same three-month period. The F-150 Lightning, the best-selling electric truck this year, sold an estimated 7,902 units in the second quarter.

“The Cybertruck is definitely benefiting from being new to the market, which is driving a lot of pent-up demand,” a Cox Automotive spokesperson told Fox Business, “and we’ll see the opposite effect with the rest of Tesla’s vehicle lineup, as the other four products are all fairly old and have seen sales decline accordingly. Being ‘new’ certainly benefits the auto market.”

Tesla’s second-quarter deliveries beat expectations

Tesla hasn’t previously released production or delivery numbers for the Cybertruck in its quarterly reports, but Lars Moravi, vice president of vehicle engineering, said in late April that the EV maker continues to ramp up production and was producing 1,000 vehicles per week “just a few weeks ago.” Investors and analysts will likely get an update on the Cybertruck when Tesla reports second-quarter earnings after the market closes on Tuesday.
