Tesla’s Elon Musk gives update on Roadster timeline

Elon Musk provided an updated timeline for when the new Tesla Roadster will go on sale early Wednesday.

The CEO said Tesla aims to launch the latest version of the electric car maker’s first-ever vehicle in 2025.

Musk said these shipments are expected to occur after Tesla finishes the production design of the model and holds an unveiling event at the end of the year. He said the sports car “could be the most shocking product demo of all time.”

“Tonight, we significantly raised the design bar for the new Tesla Roadster,” the billionaire told X. “If you can call this a car, there’s probably no other car like it.”

The new Roadster, which Musk described as a “collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX,” has been delayed by supply chain issues and other setbacks since Tesla’s CEO first announced it would go into production.

Musk said Wednesday that the sports car can go “0-60 mph in less than a second,” but that’s “the least fun part.” According to Tesla’s website, you currently need to pay $50,000 to reserve the new Roadster.

Musk said during the company’s quarterly earnings call in January that Tesla expects production of its next-generation vehicle to begin “sometime in the second half” of 2025. However, it included the caveat that he was “often optimistic about timing.” This will require “a huge amount of new and innovative manufacturing technology”.
