The attack was the most serious attempt to assassinate a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981 as he was walking to his motorcade after delivering a speech in Washington, DC. John Hinckley Jr., who was in the crowd, was the victim of the assassination attempt. Reagan recovered from the shooting in March 1981. Three others were shot, including Press Secretary James Brady, who was left partially paralyzed by the gunfire.
A shooting in Pennsylvania left one person dead and two seriously injured.
In March 2019, West Virginia State Police closed Interstate 68 near the Maryland border for several hours after a man reportedly threatened to assassinate then-President Trump and blow up the Pentagon.
According to KENS 5, “Montoya is charged with possession of an unregistered firearm, carrying a handgun without a license and making threats against a former president. Donald Trump is listed as the victim of the latter charge.”
