Texans' Jimmie Ward taken into custody for breaking bond terms from earlier arrest

Jimmy Ward, a safety for the Texans, found himself in trouble again Thursday night in Montgomery County, Texas, stemming from a breach of his bond conditions related to a previous assault charge from June.

His attorney, Steve Jackson, clarified that there won’t be any new allegations or arrests. Instead, Ward tested positive for alcohol consumption, which breaches his no-drinking bond. Jackson mentioned, “Jimmy didn’t realize there was a strict no-alcohol rule and ended up testing positive. Consequently, there will be overnight sanctions for him, but he’ll be released tomorrow morning.”

Ward was booked into the Montgomery County Jail due to a warrant linked to a felony charge. Records indicated that he wouldn’t be required to post bail and would be released under a court order on Friday.

This veteran safety was initially arrested on June 12 at his home in Magnolia, Texas. Following the incident, the victim secured an emergency protection order against him.

Ward faces three charges related to suspected strangulation, with a court date set for August 13. In a recent statement to the Post, Jackson said they intend to present a packet to the judge in hopes of having the case dismissed on August 31.

Currently, Ward is out on a $30,000 bail. He also missed the start of Texans’ training camp due to foot surgery he underwent in the offseason.

The NFL is looking into this situation, and Texans general manager Nick Caserio mentioned they are cooperating with the league’s investigation. “We make sure the legal process plays out. We’re in constant contact with the league and will do everything we can,” he said.

Candidly, he added, “It’s really day to day. We just need to let the process run its course.” Whatever the result, they will respond appropriately.
