During the Houston Texans' AFC divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, cornerback Kris Boyd found himself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Boyd shoved Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross during the Texans' 23-14 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
The incident occurred after a pivotal special teams play in which Boyd initially forced a fumble on Nikko Remigio's 63-yard kickoff return, but a flag was called.
Despite the impressive play, the Chiefs got the ball back and Boyd's reaction (tossing with his helmet off) resulted in a costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
The penalty sent the Chiefs to the Texans' 13-yard line and an early field goal.
When Boyd returned to the sideline, a heated exchange with Ross unfolded, culminating in Boyd shoving the coach.
Boyd explained what happened after the season-ending loss.
“I turned around,” Boyd told reporters. “On the kickoff on the first play, they thought it was a big play, so I took the ball out and when I got up I looked at the screen and all I saw was the white (jersey) and everyone was in the (goal). ) was pointing the finger in the Texans direction). So I thought, “Oh, we got the ball too.” turn over. 'I just turned around. ”
The moment was captured on national television and quickly went viral.
In short, Boyd apparently didn't know about the penalty when he shoved his coach during the celebration.
Ms Boyd later admitted she had gotten “too excited”, adding: “I did something I shouldn't have done.”

Boyd later said, “I love Frank (Ross).”
“He said to me, 'Hey, listen, don't worry about that,'” Boyd said of Ross. “I had to play the whole ballgame, but I was just trying to get my point across. Like I said, I'm not that type of person.”
He claimed, “I love everyone here and would never disrespect anyone. That's not my personality.”
