Texas AG Paxton accuses Democrat donation portal ActBlue of illegally funneling foreign money into US campaigns

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate evidence of possible illegal foreign donations through ActBlue.

“I am calling on the FEC to immediately begin creating rules to protect elections from any criminals exploiting these vulnerabilities.”

Paxton released a statement Monday regarding the findings of an investigation into the Democratic Party's donation portal.

“Our investigation into ActBlue uncovered facts showing that bad actors can illegally interfere in U.S. elections by disguising political contributions,” Paxton said. “The FEC will shut down channels we have identified through which foreign donations and contributions in excess of legal limits can be illegally funneled into political campaigns, circumvent campaign finance regulations, and potentially compromise election systems. It is essential.”

Paxton began investigating ActBlue in December 2023, and the portal's director responded by adding another security measure for the site's credit card users. But Paxton said that's not enough.

“I am calling on the FEC to immediately begin creating rules to protect elections from any criminals exploiting these vulnerabilities,” he added.

In July, independent investigators reported finding evidence of suspicious donations to ActBlue. Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares launched an investigation and found that donations “may have been made from fictitious donors or dummy accounts, or that the information reported by or through ActBlue may be fraudulent.” Act Blue was asked to explain the evidence for the suspicion that “there is.”

ActBlue officials accused the AG of giving credence to a “year-long campaign of disinformation and harassment” against the portal.

“This investigation is nothing more than a partisan political attack and intimidation tactic designed to undermine the power of Democrats and progressive small-dollar donors.” statement From Act Blue. “We welcome the opportunity to respond to these frivolous claims.”

The portal also linked several political action committees that had been accused of acting like “scam PACs” that promised to support campaigns but instead spent lavish funds to benefit organizers. Eliminated the organization.

An ActBlue spokesperson said only that the PAC was kicked out for misusing the information available on the portal.

In the Harris Waltz campaign, reported He raised more than $1 billion in campaign donations, dwarfing the successes of previous presidents.
