Texas seems to have a knack for cuteness.
A TSA bomb-sniffing dog named Bolt has been crowned the agency’s 2026 “Cutest Canine,” winning over many with his silly pictures and playful spirit that went viral. Bolt, a 3-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, serves at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and triumphed over 84 other hard-working dogs, as the agency revealed on Wednesday.
Bolt’s playful personality shone through in various clips where he could be seen bouncing around the terminal, jumping excitedly into the air, and enjoying a tennis ball before flopping down for belly rubs—accompanied by Dolly Parton’s classic song “9 to 5.”
His handler, Daphne Wang, expressed her joy, saying, “I am ecstatic for Bolt. He is such a character and a hard-working little guy, and he absolutely loves his job.”
Images of Bolt were shared widely online, showcasing his playful poses—big eyes, silly over-the-shoulder looks, and even a toothy grin that seemed to surprise more than just the bad guys.
An Atlanta news reporter, Alex Whittler, couldn’t help but giggle as she reacted to Bolt’s pictures during a broadcast. The excitement was palpable as she laughed, saying, “Oh my gosh this is not happening,” while wiping away tears of joy.
Bolt is the third shorthaired pointer to win this title in four years, following last year’s winner, a Labrador retriever named Steeler at Pittsburgh International Airport. The competition this year also included other finalists: Ember, a Labrador in Orlando; Epic, another Labrador in Pittsburgh; and Xaro, a German shepherd from St. Louis.
Wang noted how much fun it is to work with Bolt, telling everyone about his unique, energetic nature. “There is nothing ordinary about him,” she added, emphasizing that he’s always excited to head to work.
Social media users were also charmed by Bolt, leading to some humorous inquiries such as, “How do I arrange a pet session?” despite the fact that Bolt’s vest advises against petting him. Others joked, “If I bring drugs to the airport, can I meet Bolt?” The American Kennel Club chimed in, branding him an “Employee of the year.”
