Marcell Reed Announces Return to Texas A&M for 2026 Season
Quarterback Marcell Reed shared on Friday that he will be staying with Texas A&M for the 2026 season.
In a nod to Michael Jordan’s iconic 1995 announcement, Reed made it clear that he would not be entering the NFL Draft or seeking opportunities elsewhere.
He took to Instagram, sharing a straightforward message reminiscent of the basketball legend’s return: “I’m back.”
Reed further expressed his dedication by asking, “Where is your heart? Let’s finish what we started, Aggieland!” This signals his commitment to the Aggies as they look ahead.
The redshirt sophomore had a standout 2025 season, proving to be one of the nation’s most effective dual-threat quarterbacks.
Last year, he threw for 3,169 yards, achieving 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 493 yards on 104 attempts, adding six rushing touchdowns over 13 games.
Reed ranked fourth in the SEC for passing touchdowns, and he was among the leaders in passing yards and overall efficiency.
He played a crucial role in Texas A&M’s impressive 11-2 season, with the team starting strong at 11-0 and reaching the College Football Playoff for the first time.
However, the season wrapped up with losses against rival Texas and Miami in the playoffs, during which Reed struggled, throwing four interceptions without a touchdown.
As they prepare for the upcoming season, Reed is likely to be the focal point of a reshaping offense.
Texas A&M will welcome a new offensive coordinator, Hormone Wiggins, who steps in following Colin Klein’s move to head coach at Kansas State. Wiggins has previously coached the Aggies’ wide receivers for two years.
The Aggies are also dealing with changes in their receiving corps, as top receiver KC Concepcion is declaring for the NFL Draft after a productive season where he rushed for over 900 yards.
With two years of eligibility left, Reed’s return provides a solid foundation for the team as they look to build on their recent success.
