Texas: Brazoria County Deputy Sheriff Killed, Suspect Fatally Shot By Officers

In Brazoria County, Texas, a Houston sheriff's deputy was killed and the suspect was shot and killed by officers after a brief manhunt.

A Blue Alert had been issued for 56-year-old Robert Lee Davis III, also known as Sean Christopher Davis, in connection with the shooting.

Officials said Davis was last seen wearing a “blue Nike hoodie with Nike written in wire on the front, blue jeans, and blue sneakers.” He is described as having black hair and brown eyes, being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Houston police said in a social media update that a man was found and shot by law enforcement officers behind a strip mall near the scene of the initial shooting. However, the deceased suspect also shot and killed a police K-9, who was picked up by a fellow officer and rushed into a police helicopter.

In a Facebook post, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office described Vargas as a “dedicated public servant.”

“He was more than just a team member, he was a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration to all who knew him.His professionalism and kind personality have made our office and his It left a lasting impact on the residents it served,” the post reads in part.

Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) also posted a heartfelt message about X, expressing his condolences.
