Texas Capitol Evacuated Amid Threats to Lawmakers
Law enforcement officials evacuated the Texas Capitol on Saturday afternoon due to threats aimed at lawmakers attending the “No Kings” rally. The situation returned to normal once the Texas Director of Public Safety arrested an individual connected to the threat.
A traffic stop near La Grange, about 65 miles southeast of Austin, resulted in the arrest of a man allegedly making threats against lawmakers planning to join the protest later that night.
Troopers temporarily closed the Capitol and surrounding areas until the situation was under control. Randy Clark of Breitbart Texas was present in Austin, covering the rally and observing the areas affected by the evacuation upon his arrival.
Clark noted that the site was reopened later in the afternoon, allowing protesters to gather at the Capitol.
Officials from the Department of Public Safety confirmed that the threat had been resolved, though the investigation is ongoing. Breitbart Texas reached out for further updates, but no additional information was available at the time. Authorities assured that details would be shared once they were ready for release.
This threat to Texas legislators coincided with an alarming incident in Minnesota, where a man reportedly shot and killed both the House chairman and a state senator and their spouses, according to reports.
A nationwide manhunt is currently underway for Vance Boerter, identified by South Dakota police as a suspect in that case. Police believe he might be traveling in a maroon Buick, with another unidentified individual reportedly driving a similar vehicle.
The “No Kings” protest kicked off in Austin with a speech from Texas Democrat Lloyd Doggett, as noted by Clark.
