Texas Influencer Sentenced for Girlfriend’s Death

A Texas influencer, known as Caleb Mickens or “Cash Cartier,” has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for the fatal attack on his girlfriend, Sheila Cuevas. Interestingly, the brutal incident was partially attributed to his dog, which was euthanized shortly thereafter.

Mickens, 34, acknowledged assaulting and drugging Cuevas, leading to her death on October 8, 2023. The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office confirmed this information earlier this week.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault related to family violence and received a 40-year prison sentence. Additionally, he had 20 years suspended for another aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon in one county and another 15 years suspended for similar charges in Dallas County.

On the day of the incident, Mickens contacted 911, claiming that Cuevas was unable to breathe after an altercation involving his dog, Soldier. When authorities arrived, they found Cuevas with multiple broken ribs and stab wounds.

Following the attack, animal control intervened, and Soldier was euthanized about 11 days later. Subsequent investigations revealed no proof that the dog had caused Cuevas’ life-threatening injuries. Mickens was subsequently arrested, suspected of drugging and assaulting her.

Mickens, who had an Instagram following of nearly 100,000, has a bio that chillingly lists the death dates of Cuevas, Soldier, and another dog, captioned “Goodbye, my sweet family.”

Moreover, he had a history of violence against women, with multiple victims detailing their experiences in statements to the court. These included accounts of pain, manipulation, and assault. Cuevas’ brother made a poignant statement, expressing that no justice could bring his sister back but emphasized the need for accountability.

In a notable turn, Mickens had been involved in IM Academy, a now-defunct pyramid scheme that reportedly amassed over $1.2 billion through scams. Prosecutors indicated that he had exploited vulnerable individuals under the guise of wealth and promise, masking a life marked by violence.

At one point, Mickens claimed to be making around $20,000 a week through these schemes; however, his income dropped significantly following Cuevas’ tragic death. In summary, many voices came together to seek justice for the victims of Mickens’ actions, including a formal acknowledgment from the Arlington Police Department and others who played a role in the case.
