Texas mom left kids, 6 and 8, home alone for nearly a week while on a cruise

A Texas mother was arrested on suspicion of leaving her two young children on a cruise, leaving them home alone for nearly a week, authorities said.

Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, was charged with child endangerment last Thursday after officers found the 8-year-old and 6-year-old girls alone without adult supervision in a Houston high-rise apartment building, Harris reported. Law enforcement officials visited the apartment on April 9 and found two children alone in the apartment, with trash and food strewn across the floor and a “strong odor of urine.” is stated in the document.

The scene was “complete chaos,” deputies said.

The children said they communicated with their mother through cameras installed in her apartment and text messages to her 8-year-old son as she went on a cruise.

The children were examined by emergency personnel and Child Protective Services. They were kicked out of their apartment and are now in the care of their aunt.

Neighbors told deputies it was “not the first time” a person had been left at home without an adult.

“We are still putting together the facts and circumstances of how these children were left alone for several days,” said Officer Ted Heap. “But the important thing is that they are now safe and those responsible must be held accountable for leaving these children in a dangerous situation.”

Williams was booked into the Harris County Jail on $40,000 bail, according to jail records.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
