A 22-year-old mother from Texas, Aldrea Rogers, is facing manslaughter charges after a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of a young couple who had recently graduated from college. According to jail records, she was charged with two counts of manslaughter linked to the fatalities of Julian Harris and Madison Duren.
Reports indicate that Rogers was driving at 82 mph in a 35 mph zone when her vehicle collided with Harris and Duren’s car. Harris, 23, and Duren, 22, were alumni of Southern Methodist University, where they had a shared interest in theater.
The crash was devastating; Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, while Duren succumbed to her injuries later at a hospital.
At the time of the accident, Rogers had her two young children in the car with her, and thankfully, they survived, as confirmed by authorities.
Investigators mentioned that Harris was driving a Toyota Prius and was attempting to make a left turn onto a major road when the accident occurred. Rogers’s Hyundai Elantra hit them at a high speed, leading to the tragic outcome.
Rogers was taken to the Dallas County Jail on October 16, with her bond set at $250,000 for each of the manslaughter charges, totaling $500,000.
Harris and Duren were well-regarded in the Dallas theater scene after graduating from SMU, embodying a love for acting and the arts.
Friends described the couple as curious and enthusiastic individuals, always eager to learn and connect with others. It’s hard for them to grasp the situation, especially since Rogers, who shares their age, was involved in the accident with her children present.
The crash occurred as the couple was leaving their apartment, and the aftermath has left many in disbelief. A memorial service for both Harris and Duren is scheduled for October 31 at their alma mater, Southern Methodist University.
