Severe Flooding in Dallas Claims Life
Tragic news from Dallas, Texas, where at least one death has been confirmed amid significant flooding. The rising waters have left many vehicles stranded, creating a dangerous situation for locals.
According to reports from local authorities, the Dallas Fire Rescue was called to Park Central Drive after someone reported a vehicle trapped under the Interstate 635 Bridge. Upon arrival, emergency responders found two cars submerged.
While they saw two individuals escape from one vehicle, responders had to wait until the flash flood receded to check the second vehicle for any occupants. Ultimately, they discovered an adult man still inside, who was unfortunately declared dead at the scene.
As of early morning local time, over 3 inches of rain had fallen in Dallas, but the exact depth of water at the submerged vehicle remains unclear.
Authorities urge drivers to steer clear of flooded areas and to never attempt to traverse standing water. Jason Evans, a spokesman for Dallas Fire Rescue, emphasized the need for caution, especially during nighttime driving. It can take just moments for a vehicle to stall and become trapped as water levels rise.
Experts attribute the flooding to a slow-moving storm system that brought significant rainfall to northern Texas on Tuesday night. Alongside heavy rain, the storm also brought hail, strong winds, and lightning. The National Weather Service had previously issued thunderstorm watches for multiple counties, forecasting inch-sized rainfall through the night.
The unique conditions allowed for rapid rainfall and subsequent flash flooding in low-lying areas. Within a short time, emergency responders were dispatched due to reports of vehicles trapped beneath the Interstate 635 Bridge.
This flooding has led to road closures and power outages across the region, with more than two inches of rain falling in a brief span and lightning strikes causing further disruptions.
