Houston Doctor Offers Ivermectin to Texas Residents

A doctor from Houston, who gained notoriety during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now selling ivermectin directly to Texans while advocating its use against hantavirus, another viral illness. Mary Bowden, once a prominent figure in the pandemic discourse, posted about her offer on X, stating the availability of 100 tablets—12 mg for $85 and 18 mg for $110, without the need for a prescription.

She suggested that ivermectin could be effective against hantavirus, which has recently come back into public discussion following a cruise ship outbreak. Bowden believes that ivermectin has properties that could potentially block viruses, inhibiting their replication and entry into cells.

Meanwhile, some Texas residents linked to the cruise ship outbreak are reportedly not showing symptoms, according to health authorities.

Bowden faces criticism from medical professionals and public health experts who question her claims, emphasizing that the FDA has not approved ivermectin for treating hantavirus. This isn’t the first time Bowden has faced backlash; her promotion of ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment had already brought her into the spotlight, leading to her resignation from Houston Methodist due to an investigation surrounding her practices.

The recent Texas law changes now permit pharmacists to dispense ivermectin without a prescription, yet the Texas Medical Board continues to defend its disciplinary actions against Bowden for attempting to treat patients beyond her privileges. She claimed her new initiative to sell the drug had been in the works prior to the resurgence of hantavirus, citing ongoing challenges in accessing ivermectin affordably.

While some online have expressed disbelief over her medical license still being active, supporters have urged her to extend her offer to more individuals. Bowden’s response to their requests was simply a refusal.
