Texas Police Recognize 'Serious Threat' to Lawmakers at Capitol During Protests

Security Alert Issued for Texas State Capitol

Officials in Texas issued a warning on Saturday regarding credible threats to state legislators at the Capitol, urging enhanced security measures in light of ongoing protests.

The alert, shared through social media, highlighted that there was a legitimate threat associated with the protests occurring at the Texas State Capitol. The Capitol Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that they were collaborating with law enforcement to address the situation effectively.

“Alert. Alert. Alert. There is an active law enforcement event at Texas State Capitol (1100 Congress Ave.) The credible threat to state legislators has been identified. We are working with our law enforcement partners and utilizing all available resources,” the message stated.

The alert indicated that more updates would be provided as further information emerged.

An email retrieved by a representative suggested concerns that the threat might be connected to the recent murders of two state legislators in Minnesota, or possibly a related incident. “I’ve communicated with my federal partners, and it seems like an isolated incident for now. However, we are always cautious about potential copycats and the risk of inspired attacks. Your safety is our top priority,” the email conveyed.

A nationwide protest against former President Donald Trump, described by participants as a response to what they characterize as his “authoritarian regulations,” is taking place. This protest is part of a larger movement involving over 1,800 demonstrations.

At this moment, no further information has been released regarding the situation.
