A “class disruption” at a high school in Texas left a vice principal seriously injured and one student in custody in connection with the incident.
Corsicana Independent School District statement On Friday, the department said Candra Rogers was taken by helicopter after the incident but gave few details about what happened.
“This has been a very upsetting and difficult situation.”
The school district said only that fewer than 10 students were in the Collins Middle School classroom at the time of the incident and that no one was injured.
Teachers and students at the school were instructed to remain in their classrooms while paramedics rushed to give Rogers medical treatment.
The Corsicana Independent School District Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
“Our prayers go out to Mrs. Rogers and her family, but also to the families of our students, those who were in the classroom at the time, the entire Collins campus, our school district and our community,” Superintendent Stephanie Howell said.
“As you can imagine, this is an incredibly disturbing and challenging situation, but we take the safety of our students as well as our faculty and staff very seriously,” she added. “Both remain the Corsicana Independent School District’s top priorities.”
According to social media messages, Rogers Hired She was named vice principal in February, and her husband also works as the school’s football coach.
The district said Rogers’ condition is improving.
Corsicana is a city of approximately 25,000 people in northeast Texas.
