As the Rangers entered the East Room of the White House on Thursday, they were greeted with “With Arms Wide Open” and a classic version of Creed’s “Higher.”
The 2023 World Series champions came to the nation’s capital to celebrate the accomplishment and were greeted with a blast of Creed’s 1999 hit, which held special meaning during Texas’ playoff run last season.
The band’s music became a bit of a slog after pitcher Andrew Heaney said the team had started playing Creed’s music before games later in the season.
The comments became a talking point during the playoffs, catapulting the rock band into the cultural spotlight for the first time in years.
The Rangers beat the Diamondbacks in five games last fall to win the franchise’s first World Series championship. In the clubhouse, Rangers players celebrated by singing songs by the rock band Creed as the band closed out the playoffs with a personal appearance at Globe Life Stadium.
So it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone that a version of a Creed song was played as the Rangers entered the East Room for a ceremony with President Joe Biden.
The president even mentioned Creed and the impact it has had on the team during his remarks Thursday.
Biden, referring to the team, said he is confident the team can win the title.
“You never gave up. You kept the faith and you carried each other higher and higher like your favorite band, Creed. You really did,” Biden said.
The stop at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue took place between the end of the series against the Astros and the start of a three-game series against the Red Sox in Boston.
As part of the White House visit, the Rangers presented Biden with a custom jersey with his name on the back and a pair of black cowboy boots.
