Texas Man Avoids Prosecution in Child Assault Case

A Texas man, accused of multiple sexual assaults against children, may sidestep prosecution on nine felony charges due to a plea deal with Travis County prosecutors, supported by George Soros.

Richard Lee Bell, 37, faced serious charges, including continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, six counts of aggravated sexual assault, and two counts of indecency with a child. However, as part of his plea agreement, those charges were dropped, allowing him to plead guilty to a lesser charge of injury to a child, which is a third-degree felony.

As a result of the agreement, Bell received a sentence of five years’ probation. He is required to register as a sex offender and must avoid any contact with the victim, the victim’s family, or any minors.

Notably, the plea deal did not include any prison time.

Outside the courtroom, the victim’s father expressed his anger at the decision, feeling blindsided by the outcome and claiming that the prosecutors did not consult the victim during discussions. “I was furious to learn that not only was this our first and last plea bargain,” he mentioned, “but it was our bargain whether we liked it or not.”

He expected Bell to receive a prison sentence, stating, “I think any parent would expect someone who did something like this to rot in prison.” He also had anticipated that a reasonable plea deal would involve some time served in prison, especially for such serious offenses.

In Texas, under deferred adjudication, if defendants successfully complete their probation, they can avoid a conviction. However, any violations could lead to sentencing on the original charges.

Bell’s probation conditions, including the sex offender registration and no-contact stipulations, will be enforced for the entirety of the five-year term.

Inquiries made to the Travis County District Attorney’s office by Fox News Digital received no response.

Jose Garza, who became the district attorney in 2021 with Soros’s backing, has stated his commitment to “reimagining” the criminal justice system. He claimed to be fulfilling the voters’ demands for a more effective criminal justice approach, advocating for victims and prioritizing treatment for non-violent offenses over incarceration.

However, critics contend that Garza’s leadership has been detrimental to victims and has implemented policies that compromise public safety. His approach to prosecuting police officers has also raised eyebrows, especially amid ongoing debates about police funding in the city.

Recent events, such as Garza attending the funeral of a fallen police officer, have drawn significant criticism, with some labeling it a “slap in the face” given the city’s divided feelings on policing.
