A “caring” Texas Sonic employee was allegedly shot and killed on Sunday, just days before his 34th birthday, after an altercation with two female customers in the store’s drive-thru.
Daniel Shrewsberry was on duty at the San Antonio store when he was confronted by an unruly customer around 9:30 p.m. Kesat.
A customer is accused of shooting Shrewsberry, who fled into the restaurant and was later pronounced dead inside.
On Monday, the San Antonio Police Department release Photos of two female customers inside the Sonic, one wearing a black T-shirt and gold chains and the other wearing a white sundress with a floral pattern, arguing with Shrewsberry before he was killed.
No arrests have been made and the suspect’s name has not been released.
According to the outlet, Shrewsbury’s family believes the argument with the suspects began when the pair tried to buy food using counterfeit bills.
“My brother confronted them about counterfeit bills and he got shot,” said JoJo Shrewsberry, the grieving brother of a Sonic employee.
“He was a really good brother, not just to me but to everybody.”
JoJo Shrewsberry said her brother, who was less than a week away from celebrating his 34th birthday at the time of the fatal shooting, was a “role model” to her and many others.
“He’s not just known as a Sonic employee. He’s so much more than that,” he told KSAT, fighting back tears.
A witness in the drive-thru said he heard three gunshots and an employee ran to his car to let him know someone had been shot.
“I was sitting in the queue and I was on my phone and I heard what initially sounded like the first gunshot, but I couldn’t really tell what it was,” the witness said. He told KENS5“Then I heard two more gunshots and I thought, ‘something is happening’. I just tried to get out of there. I was scared.”
“Poor girl. I feel sorry for her,” the witness added, referring to the helpless employee. “She came up to me and asked if I still wanted my order, that an employee had been shot. She had this look of complete shock on her face. I just said, ‘No, I’m fine. I’m just trying to get out of here.'”
The Post reached out to San Antonio police.
In an emotional piece, Shrewsbury’s sister, Jazmine Robinson, wrote: Facebook Post She said Tuesday that her brother “should not have died like this” and denounced the suspects as cowards.
“They took my brother without any hesitation and without any regard for his family or loved ones. It’s such a sad world we live in. Guys, I never thought I’d lose my brother this way,” she wrote.
“I love you always, big brother. Always will. They may have taken your body, but they can’t take your soul. The memories we had together will last forever. I’ll never forget what an amazing, hard working brother you were.”
Shrewsbury was the eldest of three children.
His family told the outlet that when he’s not busy at work, he’s often found playing video games.
A memorial was installed outside the Sonic entrance on Monday.
