Emotional Graduation for Hunter Metcalf

At a high school graduation ceremony in Texas, Hunter Metcalf accepted diplomas for himself and his twin brother, Austin, who tragically passed away last year. Hunter received both diplomas at Memorial High School, held at the Comerica Center in Frisco. It was an emotional scene.

During the ceremony, Hunter, dressed in black and gold, walked across the stage twice. The announcement of the posthumous diploma for Austin drew applause and a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience. The moment felt heavy with emotion, especially since it came just over a year after Austin was killed.

Earlier that night, Hunter received his own diploma, finishing with honors and achieving a GPA of 4.0 or higher, as noted in the ceremony program.

Austin Metcalf’s death occurred during a violent confrontation at a high school track event on April 2, 2025. He was watching a race when he confronted Carmelo Anthony, a Centennial High School student who had settled into the Memorial High School section. When Austin asked him to leave, the situation escalated into a fight.

During this altercation, Anthony allegedly took out a knife and stabbed Austin in the chest. The incident left Hunter holding his brother as he took his last breaths.

Anthony was arrested shortly after and faces a charge of first-degree murder, with a jury trial set to begin on June 1. If found guilty, he could face a sentence ranging from five to 99 years in prison. Notably, a Supreme Court decision has influenced the legal proceedings, exempting Anthony from the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole, as he was under 17 at the time of the crime.

Meanwhile, Jeff Metcalf, the boys’ father, has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the legal outcomes following his son’s death. He even left a press event conducted by Anthony’s attorney earlier this year. Since then, Hunter has been placed under a gag order, limiting his ability to speak to the press about this tragic situation.
