Texas woman arrested for animal cruelty after leaving nine dogs out in the heat without food or water

Police in Texas are investigating a serious case of animal cruelty after nine dogs were found in a hot outdoor cage, with one dog later dying.

The surviving dogs are recovering at Giddings Animal Shelter outside Austin.

“It was sad,” Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps told FOX 7 Austin. “It was a sad situation.”

Manor Police told FOX 7 Austin that officers found the dogs in temperatures of 104 degrees and a heat index of 108. The dogs were locked in cages in the suspect’s backyard and had no food or water.

Two of the dogs were wearing sweaters when they were found, and neighbors said they had been wearing the same sweaters since last winter.

The ninth abandoned dog died at a nearby veterinary clinic.

“Our officers are animal lovers and when we see an animal suffering, it’s a sad situation,” Police Chief Phipps told FOX7 Austin.

Texas police say thieves are stealing copper from power lines “right before your eyes,” and “they’re willing to use any means necessary.”

The dog’s owner, Aisha Young, was arrested for leaving the dog outside.

Under Texas law, Young has the legal right to ask for the dogs’ return, but a judge will have the final say on final ownership of the dogs.
